“I’ll blow you away with my AK”
It didn’t seem right to write about this is the previous post, but before visiting the Killing Feilds, we went out to a shooting range where you could fire anything from a colt revolver to an anti-aircraft gun, and even a bazooka! I was keen for the bazooka but at US$200 a pop, my budget didn’t quite stretch.
We narrowed the field down to the M16 and the AK-47, after waiving the Tommy Gun, the shotgun (boring…), the uzy (oozy?) a grenade, and a motar, we opted for the AK-47 as somehow it seemed a bit more exotic and I had this weird thought that M16’s were common and American and I’d probably be able to shoot one of those any day (!!), so Beth and I shared a magazine (25 rounds) and let loose on some poor paper-target guy with the AK. It was pretty exhilirating, and a huge amount of fun. We let off a few rounds in single shot mode, then he switched it over semi-auto and we peeled of 5 rounds at a time which was just insane - the kick back of gun so strong that the dude had to hold us in place as we fired.
I came out of the room with a massive grin on my face and my hands and feet trembling - kinda how I felt after driving the Alfa GT on holiday last summer… I know guns are bad and all, but damn they are a lot of fun!
