I have the world’s oil price solution
After a slow start trying to tell the cabbie where abouts in New York city I wanted to go, we finally get onto the motorway for our half hour journey into the city.
Sitting in the Yellow Cab, with the cabbie flooring the gas pedal every 2 seconds and then backing off, I found the solution to the oil shortage: New York cab drivers need to ease off on the go-pedal! I contemplated telling the cab driver this, but thought better of it seeing as I had no idea how he’d react to me giving out advice.
Reaching speeds of 60-70mph in town (speed limit is 30) is just silly really, but the cabbie seemed to take it all in his stride and didn’t even flinch when he drove straight past a NYPD cop! Seems the New York’s finest turn a blind eye to the cabs over here.
So in record time we reach my destination: Morningside heights, Manhattan. I’m staying with my friend Mikey, who’s studying at Manhattan Jazz School. He’s kindly offered me some floor space here for the week, bless him.
I’ve been here for a day now and pretty much know my way around as it’s super easy to get your bearings with all the streets and avenues numbered 1st street, 2nd street etc. Have managed myself on the subway too, which again is simple and very efficient.
Went to an Apple store today (not THE Apple store, just a run-of-the-mill one) and was amazed by the number of people inside. It’s like a convention was about to start. I was sure there must have been some event or someone famous there or at the very least a 50% off sale, but no, I was assured that this is just your typical day at an Apple store! I wonder when Magnum Mac is going to get a genius bar or a seminar/speaking room to give demonstrations…. hmm.
Tomorrow brings: cheesy tourist bus tour of Manhattan (gotta be done) and perhaps THE Apple store visit.
Listening to: Dashboard confessional
