Here's some highlights from our trip

Last days

It's almost time to leave. The last few days we've been up in Halong Bay which is up in the north of Vietnam. They have some cool rock formations that are a cross between the Marlborough Sounds and the Coromandel. Good times on the Junk Boat, apart from the family of rats also sharing our cabins which made for an eventful trip! Back in Hanoi now. Brought another jacket(!) ...

Wild on Asia

I nicked this title from my sisters email, but i really feel it's befitting of our time here. It's super super cheap to buy anything and everything, and if you wanted to you could live it up like a king. The amount of times I've been offered pot, sex, "a good time" etc etc is getting ridiculous. I must look like i'm up for it though, as the ...

Good morning Vietnam

I just couldn't resist writing that title... Vietnam is cool. Super hot, but very cool. We've just stayed a few days in Ho Chi Minh city (Saigon), where we all had various suits and tops made by the many many tailoring shops around town. I got a few shirts, a jacket & a nice charcoal suit made - all for around $600NZD! So awesome... While in Saigon we visited the ...

Good luck to the black caps - hope you score the runs

Cause if you're getting them like I am, you'll take home the world cup for sure!

“I’ll blow you away with my AK”

It didn't seem right to write about this is the previous post, but before visiting the Killing Feilds, we went out to a shooting range where you could fire anything from a colt revolver to an anti-aircraft gun, and even a bazooka! I was keen for the bazooka but at US$200 a pop, my budget didn't quite stretch. We narrowed the field down to the M16 and the AK-47, ...

Choeung Ek

While in Phnom Penh, we all went out to visit the Choeung Ek memorial, otherwise known as the 'Killing Fields', where a massive number of Cambodians were taken to be slaughtered by the Khmer Rouge communinist regime. The numbers killed are estimated to be 17,000 between 1975 and 1979. They were buried in mass graves, and in order to save ammunition, executions were often carried out using hammers, axe ...

Oh yeah, by the way…

We're now in Vietnam, after a pleasant border crossing and a reasonably uncomfortable 6 hour bus trip. Six hours seems like an eternity when traveling around New Zealand, but over here the time flys by, and I find myself in Ho Chi Minh (Saigon) City. I have to say, out of Thailand, Cambodia & Vietnam, Vietnam is my favorite place so far, with Thailand coming in a close second. ...

Living out of each others suitcases

Or more precisely, Alana has been living out of mine. I guess that's understandable that when you pack 20+ kgs of stuff, you wanna pass some off. And if your brother only has 7 then it's quite likely he's going to get handed some gear! Unfortunately for her, I've just measured up 2 suits and a few shirts, so the underwear will be making room for some nice new threads ...
