Ankor temples

Went to see the Ankor temples (including Ankor Wat) the other day. These photos say it all really. Some of my own photos to come soon I promise. I just need to find an internet cafe with a fat pipe and a DVD drive, which is harder that you would think around here. Currently listening to: Various tracks on my iPod shuffle, but it makes me smile every time 'Paint ...

The NASA recruitment programe

A new wave of recruits are set to hit the outer reaches of the earth's atmosphere and explore in greater detail the surface of the moon, if my experience in Cambodia is anything to go by... I believe I have found what looks to be NASA's latest recruit program. Specifically, they are training men to use moon buggies like the ones from Armstrongs day. They do this by using ...

The scam bus

If you've read the Cambodian lonely planet, and travelled the road by bus from Bangkok to anywhere in Cambodia, you'll probably know about the 'scam bus'. It involves tour compaines touting prices of 200 baht ($10NZ) or less to take you over the border, and it's one of those "too good to be true" things. Into the hills

So much has happened in the last day or two it's hard to write it all down, so again here we go with some highlights and lowlights... Trekking into the hills around Chaing Mai was awesome. Our two guides Song and Bo were classic: really funny Thai fellas who knew how to have fun and keep us all moving along. We visted a few hill tribes villages along the ...

A little taste of Asia

Well, we made it. Super hot, super mad times, but so much fun! We're all the way up in Chaing Mai now, having successfully navigated our way around Bangkok to the train station with about 20 minutes to spare. Bangkok was great. Arrived late at night having had little or no sleep on the plane, and found our hotel. Was just glad to have a bed that wasn't an airline ...

2 days to go…

Got out some $US currency and some travelers cheques today from a very unhelpful man at the travelex shop. He must assume that everyone who comes in to see him has been overseas a million times, so he gave me a blank stare when I asked for some travellers cheques and told me I need to be more helpful if he was to help me! Shesh... Had some passport ...

Tis almost time

This time next week I'll be heading off on my first big overseas trip to South East Asia. My sister and I, and couple of friends are heading from New Zealand to Thailand, Cambodia and finally Vietnam. All I know of those palces is what the lonely planet (my #2 Bible) has told me, anecdotal stuff from friends, and whatever remains from my 5-7th form geography years. I'm full ...
