Canceled order at Amazon.com

So the other day when our dollar was insanely high against the US (80 cents) I ordered a book from Amazon. My order went through smartly, and I thought all was well. A few weeks later I started wondering where my nice book had got to, when around the same time I got an email from amazon saying that the shipping of my book had been delayed due to ...

Product test: Blackbox C14 Noise Cancelling Earphones

Here begins what is hopefully the first in a long line of (unofficial) product reviews. Inspired by my (sometimes) good friend TK. I figure I can offer a Wellington perspective on products that no southerner could. First up are the Blackbox C14 earphones. I heard about these via Rod Dury's blog. Well, that's all changed now. On the weekend I ...

One computer, many peripherals

I bet there's lots of people that wonder what all those ports on the side (or back) of their computers/laptops do, and I also bet that those people regularly wonder why they are there or if they'd ever need them...

Day two

Just sat in on a very interesting talk from Rowan Simpson from TradeMe. An interesting stat from his talk was the percentages of people using various browsers, resolutions and connections. Of all TradeMe users: 87% are on IE, 20% use 800x600 resolutions, and 70% of TradeMe users are on dialup connections! Fascinating...

Why take photos at the conference when other people will take them for you! Thanks flickr tags

Here endeth day one

All in all a pretty good first day here at the Wellington Webstock conference. Heard talks from Doug Bowman, Joel Spolsky, Darren Fittler, Donna Maurer, Kelly Goto and Steve Champeon. Highlights were: Doug Bowman. Even just watching his Keynote presentation slides was enough to get me hot and sweaty! The guy is a great designer. Joel Spolsky was pretty funny, and talked about all the annoying stuff like updates ...
